Description
The Hilscher cifX PCIE90-RE is a next-generation PCI Express communication card designed to deliver secure, flexible, and future-proof connectivity for PC-based automation systems. Built on Hilscher’s proven cifX platform, it provides a unified solution for integrating Industrial Ethernet and IIoT protocols into industrial PCs and embedded systems.
Engineered as the successor to the cifX 50E-RE, the PCIE90-RE introduces cyber-secure, CRA-compliant communication, ensuring readiness for modern industrial security requirements while maintaining full compatibility with established automation environments. Its multi-protocol capability allows a single hardware platform to support a wide range of Industrial Ethernet networks, enabling seamless integration and reducing system complexity.
The card is fully suitable for slave (device) communication, making it ideal for integration into controlled systems where the PC operates as a field-level device within industrial networks. By leveraging Hilscher’s netX technology, protocol stacks run independently on the card, offloading the host CPU and ensuring deterministic, real-time communication performance.
In addition, the cifX PCIE90-RE enables simultaneous Industrial Ethernet and IIoT communication over the same physical network. When operating as a PROFINET IO-Device, Open Modbus/TCP, or EtherNet/IP adapter, the card can concurrently support IIoT protocols such as OPC UA Server or MQTT Client, allowing direct data exchange with higher-level systems, cloud platforms, or edge applications—without requiring additional hardware or network infrastructure.
Integration is straightforward thanks to a standardised API, comprehensive driver support, and harmonised tools, allowing developers to deploy and scale solutions quickly across different protocols and system architectures. This unified approach also enables easy migration between networks without hardware changes—simply update the firmware to switch protocols.
