MAGBES-3x 

The MPL MAGBES-3x is a rugged, 5-port managed Gigabit Ethernet switch featuring a new switch fabric and improved IEEE 802.1AS gPTP (Generalised Precision Time Protocol) support. Designed as a drop-in replacement for earlier MAGBES-1x/2x models, it offers advanced network management, flexible copper and fibre connectivity, and reliable fanless operation in demanding industrial environments.

Next Generation Rugged Managed Ethernet Switch

The MPL MAGBES-3x series is the latest generation of compact, rugged managed Gigabit Ethernet switches, designed for demanding industrial, embedded and military applications.

Building on the proven MAGBES-1x and MAGBES-2x series, the MAGBES-3x introduces an updated Ethernet switch fabric, improved time synchronisation capabilities and enhanced network management features, while maintaining drop-in replacement compatibility with earlier generations.

Improved PTP and IEEE 802.1AS gPTP Support

A key enhancement of the MAGBES-3x is its support for IEEE 802.1AS gPTP (Generalised Precision Time Protocol), a profile of IEEE 1588 designed for time synchronisation across Ethernet networks.

The new switch fabric overcomes hardware limitations of the earlier MAGBES-2x series, providing more reliable timestamping and improved gPTP operation. This makes the MAGBES-3x particularly suitable for applications requiring coordinated network timing and deterministic communication.

Flexible Ethernet Connectivity

The MAGBES-3x offers five Gigabit Ethernet ports, with a choice of copper and fibre optic configurations:

• MAGBES-31: 5 copper Ethernet ports

• MAGBES-32: 3 copper ports and 2 SFP ports

• MAGBES-33: 4 copper ports and 1 SFP port

Copper connections are available using RJ45 connectors or rugged 2mm lockable headers. Fibre optic interfaces support compatible SFP transceivers, including 1Gbps and 2.5Gbps options.

Advanced Ethernet Management

The MAGBES-3x provides comprehensive managed Ethernet functionality, including IEEE 802.1Q VLAN, Quality of Service (QoS), Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP), SNMPv1/v2c/v3, IGMP snooping, link aggregation and Access Control Lists (ACL).

Configuration and monitoring are available through the integrated web interface, providing flexible network administration and diagnostics.

Rugged Design and Easy Integration

Designed for embedded and industrial systems, the MAGBES-3x combines a compact footprint with low power consumption and fanless operation.

Available in PC/104 stackable, standalone and PIP build-in configurations, with rugged enclosure options, the series is well suited to installations where space, reliability and environmental conditions are critical.

With a wide 5–36V DC supply range and extended operating temperature options, the MAGBES-3x provides a straightforward upgrade path for existing MAGBES installations and a robust solution for new industrial Ethernet designs.
