Description

MPL μGUARD-A5DR Rugged Industrial Firewall / Router / Access Point is a compact, long-life networking platform designed for secure communications in harsh and space-constrained environments. Built around MPL’s μGUARD architecture, it combines firewall, routing and access point functionality in a low-power, small-form-factor design suited to industrial systems, transport applications and other demanding installations where reliability and security are critical. The platform is based on OpenWRT and is designed for long-term availability.

The μGUARD family is engineered for flexible deployment, with 3 x Gigabit Ethernet ports, support for 10/100/1000Mbit operation, a wide 8–36VDC input range, and expansion capability via 2 x miniPCIe slots and 1 x M.2 slot with dual SIM support. This allows the unit to be adapted for additional communications and storage options such as WLAN, LTE, GPRS or mSATA, making it suitable for a wide variety of edge-security and industrial networking roles.

Designed for real-world industrial use, the μGUARD platform is optimised for low power consumption, compact size and rugged operation. Standard operating temperature is listed at -20°C to +60°C, with optional extended temperature versions available up to -40°C to +85°C. MPL also positions the unit for use in public transportation, industrial and defence-related environments, with options across different housing and connector formats depending on project requirements.

A major advantage of the μGUARD range is its expandability. It can be integrated with MPL’s μMAGBES managed switch to add up to 10 additional LAN ports, and it is available in formats for cabinet integration or industrial mounting. Combined with the OpenWRT software base and broad package ecosystem, this gives system designers a highly adaptable platform for creating secure, application-specific firewall and routing solutions.
